which four waves of dismounted light Australian cavalrymen charged
towards Turkish machine guns on a narrow front and suffered appalling
casualties. This study looks at the attack itself, the background to
the units and their commanders, with a focus on why the later waves of
attackers were allowed to make futile and costly assaults.
