The First Hapsburg-Valois War (1521-26)
was the start of a quarter of a century of conflict between Francis I
of France and the Emperor Charles V and ended with the disastrous
French defeat at Pavia in February 1525), which saw the French position
in Italy collapse, never really to recover.
