Looks at a significant but relatively unknown battle on the Eastern
Front, the first time that a reasonably prepared German force had been
wiped out in a siege, and a determined relief effort had failed.
Overshadowed by the similar but much larger battle of Stalingrad, this
was still a major battle, and demonstrates many of the trends that were
leading the Germans to defeat
